Selling Your Limoges
We Buy Antique Limoges
We are always looking for fine antique Limoges to offer in the gallery. If you have pieces you are thinking of selling, send us a few photos and we will let you know whether they are a fit.
Selling your Limoges to us
Much of what we offer comes from private owners: families settling an estate, collectors refining a collection, and people who have simply decided it is time for a set to be used and enjoyed by someone else. We have been buying Limoges for decades, and we still look at every message with interest.
The process is simple. You send us photos and details through the form below, we look at them ourselves, and we tell you plainly whether the pieces are something we would like to buy. There is no charge for us to look and no obligation to sell.
What we are looking for
We buy antique Limoges porcelain of good quality, in good condition for its age. We are especially interested in:
- Fine dinnerware sets, particularly larger and more complete services with serving pieces.
- Chargers and cabinet plates, including hand-painted and heavily gilded examples.
- Tea and coffee sets, with their pots, sugars and creamers where possible.
- Vases and jardinieres, especially larger pieces with fine painted decoration.
- Dresser and vanity pieces, such as trays, powder boxes, hair receivers and ring holders.
- Hand-painted pieces, whether factory decorated, studio decorated or the work of a skilled independent painter.
- Haviland and other good factories. We see a great deal of Haviland dinnerware, and we are also glad to hear about pieces from the other well-regarded Limoges makers and decorating studios.
If you are not sure what you have, that is fine. Send the photos anyway. If you would like to learn more first, our guide to Limoges marks and our page on Haviland Limoges can help you read the marks on the back.
What we usually pass on
We are a small gallery, and we can only buy pieces we expect to offer to our own customers. To save you time, these are the things we usually decline:
- Modern and recent pieces, including contemporary giftware and decorative items.
- Pieces with significant damage, such as large chips, cracks, heavy wear to gold or painted decoration, or extensive old repairs.
- Small, very incomplete sets, unless the pattern or decoration is unusual.
- Porcelain that is not actually from Limoges, including pieces made elsewhere in a similar style.
- Single everyday plates and cups in common patterns, unless they complete something we already have.
Passing on a piece is not a judgment of its worth to you. It only means it is not the right fit for our gallery at the moment.
Condition matters
Condition has a large effect on whether we can buy a piece and on what we can offer. Before you write, please take a careful look:
- Run a fingertip gently around rims and edges to feel for chips.
- Hold plates and cups up to a light to look for hairline cracks.
- Check the gold for rubbing or wear, especially on rims and handles.
- Look for signs of old repair, such as glue lines or areas where the glaze looks different.
Please photograph anything you find and mention it in your message. Honest condition notes help us give you a clear answer the first time.
Note: Please do not try to clean, polish or repair pieces before sending photos. Harsh cleaning can damage gilding and painted decoration. Our guide to caring for antique Limoges explains gentle care.
How it works
- Send photos and details. Use the form below. Include a photo of the front, a close-up of every back mark, any damage, and measurements. For a set, tell us how many pieces there are and what shapes are included.
- We reply with interest or a pass. We read every message ourselves and let you know whether the pieces are something we would like to buy. If we need more photos or information, we will ask.
- We make an offer. If we are interested, we will make you an offer. You are free to accept it, decline it or take time to think it over.
- Payment and pickup or shipping. If you accept, we arrange payment and either pickup or shipping with you directly, depending on the pieces and where you are.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a charge for you to look at my photos?
No. There is no charge for us to review your photos and no obligation to sell if we make an offer.
Can you give me an appraisal?
We do not provide formal appraisals or written valuations for insurance, estate, tax or legal purposes. Our offer is simply what we would pay as buyers. For a formal appraisal, we recommend a qualified, independent appraiser.
Do you buy single pieces?
Sometimes. A single fine piece, such as a hand-painted charger, vase or jardiniere, can be of real interest to us. Single everyday plates and cups are usually harder for us to use.
I am not sure my piece is antique. Should I still write?
Yes. Send the photos, including the back mark, and we will let you know. If you only want to know more about a piece and are not ready to sell, our Identify Your Limoges page is the place to start.
How long does it take to hear back?
We usually reply within one to two business days. Large collections or unusual marks can take a little longer while we look carefully.
What should I include in my message?
Clear photos of the front, every back mark and any damage, along with measurements, the number of pieces in a set, and anything you know about the history of the pieces.
Ready to send?
Use the form below. Attach your photos, add measurements and condition notes, and tell us a little about the pieces. We will be in touch.
