About Limoges Antiques Gallery

We are a small, women-owned business that has spent decades buying, selling and studying Limoges porcelain. This gallery is where we offer our favorite antique pieces.

Who we are

Limoges Antiques Gallery is run by people who have worked with Limoges porcelain for decades. Over those years we have bought, sold, unpacked, cleaned, photographed and packed more of it than we could count, and we have never stopped learning from it. Every collection that comes through our door teaches us something about a pattern, a mark or a decorator we had not seen before.

We are a small, women-owned business. There is no warehouse of anonymous stock behind this website. The pieces you see are our own, chosen by us and kept here until they go to a new home.

Where our pieces come from

We source carefully, mostly from private estates and established collections, and occasionally from other dealers whose judgment we trust. We look for porcelain that is genuinely antique, well made and still in good condition for its age. We pass on far more than we buy.

When something comes in, we examine it closely before it is listed. We check the marks, look for damage and old repairs, and decide whether it meets the standard we want for the gallery. If it does not, it does not appear here.

How we describe pieces

We write our listings the way we would want them written if we were the buyer.

  • Condition comes first. We describe chips, hairlines, crazing, wear to gold or enamel, and any restoration in plain words. When we are unsure about something, we say so.
  • Marks are shown, not only named. We photograph back marks and decorator marks so you can read them yourself.
  • Dates are approximate. Where we give an era, it is our best judgment from the marks, shape and decoration. We will tell you how confident we are.
  • Measurements are taken by hand.

If anything in a listing is unclear, send us a message through our contact form and we will answer as fully as we can, including extra photographs on request.

Why Limoges

Porcelain has been made in and around Limoges, in west-central France, since the late eighteenth century, and by the late nineteenth century the city had become the main center of French porcelain manufacturing. Much of what survives from that period was made with remarkable skill, and a great deal of it was made to be used. We enjoy finding those pieces and passing them on to people who will use and enjoy them again.
